School district ‘Hall of Fame' honors five

    Induction dinner scheduled in October WESTFALL — The Delaware Valley Hall Of Fame Committee has chosen: Erin Hoey Burns, Eve Eberz Houseknecht, Dan McKean, Randolph “Skip” Gregory and Ken Segal as its 2010 inductees. The five people chosen will be inducted at a banquet to be held at the Tom Quick Inn on Sunday October 10, 2010 beginning at 4 p.m., with dinner at 5 p.m. The public is invited and tickets are available at $35 each. Tickets can be obtained from committee members or by calling Julie at the Delaware Valley School District at 570-296-1804. The inductees • Erin Hoey Burns was a member of the Delaware Valley High School Class of 1994 where she excelled in softball and basketball. As a basketball player, she was a four-year varsity letter winner and captain of the 1993-94 team. She was named to the DV Holiday Basketball all-tournament, all-star team in 1992-93 and was recipient of the Outstanding Team Player award. A four-year varsity letter winner in softball, she won batting titles in 1991 and 1993, was a member of the NAC all conference team 1991-1994, was named MVP in 1994 and was the first Delaware Valley softball player to earn a scholarship to an NCAA Division One school. She captained the 1994 team batting .513. Erin was also a member of the Diamond Dolls Amateur Softball Association team during her high school years. At lona College, Erin was a starting player for four years from 1995-1998. She received the NFPCA All-America Scholar-Athlete Award for the 1997-1998 academic year. • Eve Eberz Houseknecht was a member of the Delaware Valley High School Class of 1979 where she excelled in field hockey. She was a member of the 1975 field hockey team that won the state championship. A consummate team player, she continued her love of the game playing four years at Lafayette College earning a varsity letter. After college, she played for ten years on the Wyoming Valley Field Hockey Club team, participating in several international tournaments. She then became a field hockey official at J.V. and Varsity games in the Lehigh Valley. She is currently one of Delaware Valley’s most enthusiastic field hockey fans and attends most games. She became involved in the Eastern Pike Soccer program in 2000 and later served as president of the organization, helping to develop its travel program. Eve currently teaches math in the Delaware Valley School District. • Dan McKean was a member of the Delaware Valley High School Class of 1982 where he excelled in golf and tennis. On the golf team, he was the number one player for each of his four years, an MVP, a medalist, and the first player to represent the school at the state level. Dan went on to win the Junior College State Championship in 1982. After receiving his Associates Degree in electronics from Penn State, Dan was a golf professional from 1986-1994 at Baltusrol Golf Club, home of thirteen US Open tournaments. In 1994, he established Dan McKean Golf Photography and has since photographed over 10,000 golf holes. His company also specializes in corporate outings, golf course landscaping and golf course consulting and design. • Randolph “Skip” Gregory was a member of the Milford High School class of 1949. After graduation, he attended the University of Scranton and the Chrysler Business Management Training Program. From 1951-53, he served in the United States Army. A lifelong Pike County resident and prominent businessman, he owned and operated Gregory’s Garage, a Chrysler-Plymouth franchise, Esso gas station, and later was president of Gregory’s Exxon gas station and convenience store. An active community member, he served as Mayor of the Borough of Milford from 1979-85. During his term, he was instrumental in establishing a central dispatching center for police and fire companies. From 1985-92 he served as chairman of the Pike County Board of Commissioners. One highlight of his tenure was the formation of Pike County’s own Area Agency on Aging. Among his many community affiliations, Skip was an active member of the Milford Volunteer Fire Department for thirty-five years, member of the Milford Lodge and the Milford Midget Baseball League, and director of the Milford Community House. In 2007 he published the book, “All Roads Lead to Milford, PA - Postcards from the Past”. • Ken Segal is a 1982 graduate of Delaware Valley High School. Ever since he can remember he has had a fascination with the nuts and bolts of television and motion picture production. According to Ken, he was encouraged by DV teachers James Burnett, Judith Hess, Jack Callenberg, William Webster and the late Richard Staffieri, who allowed him to explore his growing interest in movies and the craft of creating them. Ken earned a degree in Film Production from Penn State University. His senior film project, which he co-produced and co-edited, and for which he did the sound mixing, won top honors. Upon graduation, Ken moved to the Hollywood/Los Angeles area, working in low-budget films, gaining experience, and eventually progressing to main-line independent features and major television programs. He is a 24-year member of the International Alliance of Theater Stage Employees (IATSE). Among his many credits, Ken was production sound mixer for the popular “Malcolm in the Middle,” television series, for “Monk” and 48 other television shows and series. Among his more than 37 movie credits as sound mixer and/or sound production mixer are “Reservoir Dogs,” “Devil in a Blue Dress,” and “I Love You, Man.” Through his still very active career, Ken has worked with such distinguished directors as Quentin Tarantino and Carl Franklin and major talents as Denzel Washington, Harvey Keitel, Bill Paxton, Billy Bob Thornton, Tony Shalhoub, and Frankie Muniz. Ken is featured prominently on the Internet Movie Data Base (IMDB). The Hall of Fame Committee welcomes suggestions for future inductees.
