MILFORD - A man charged with failing to register with the Pennsylvania State Police under Pennsylvania’s Megan’s Law waived his right to a preliminary hearing today in district court. Elias Rivera, 22, of Greentown was charged by the state police with failing to register his residence address of 1108 State route 507 Greentown, with the state police under Pennsylvania’s Megan’s Law. The state police received information that Rivera was required to register in New Jersey under Megan’s Law there, and that he may be living in Greentown. Trooper Michael Mulvey of the Criminal Investigation Unit learned that Rivera was living in Greentown since October of last year. Rivera was arrested and charged with failure to comply with the registration of sexual offender requirements, a felony charge. Rivera was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Stephen A. McBride and incarcerated in the Pike County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail. Rivera appeared before McBride Tuesday, and waived his right to a preliminary hearing. His case will be set for trial this summer in Pike County Court. According to First Assistant District Attorney Raymond J. Tonkin, who is prosecuting the case against Rivera, the state Legislature recently strengthened the penalties for those sex offenders who fail to register under Megan’s Law. Tonkin urged anyone with information about any sex offender required to register under Megan’s Law who has not registered as required or changed their address without notifying the state police to contact the Pennsylvania State Police at 570-226-5718 or the Pike County District Attorney’s Office at 570-296-3482.
