Siptroth, Scavello to host hearing on property tax reform
MARSHALLS CREEK State Representatives John Siptroth, D-Monroe/Pike, and Mario Scavello R-Monroe, are going to host a public hearing of the House Finance Committee to re-ignite a dialogue in the Poconos regarding property tax reform, and particularly to examine H.B. 1600. The hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20 at Stroudsburg High School, 1100 W. Main St., Stroudsburg. House Bill 1600, which both Siptroth and Scavello co-sponsored, would allow for an increase to the state Personal Income Tax and the Sales and Use tax, and provide school districts with a share of the generated revenue in order to reduce school property taxes. School superintendents and school district managers, school board representatives and representatives from the community have been invited to testify. This hearing is one of several being held around the state to give residents access to the debate and information regarding the proposal.
