Specter met with Pike County Democrats
MILFORD Senator Arlen Specter met with members and guests of the Pike Democratic Committee at the Tom Quick Inn in Milford on Aug. 26. According to a statement from the committee, Specter commented on health care, other public business and took questions. Regarding health care, the Senator pointed out that a bill is still taking shape, and that the single-payer option is not necessarily off the table. He reportedly was optimistic about the passage of health care legislation. Specter also paid tribute to and remarked upon the passing of his long time colleague, Senator Edward M. Kennedy. In discussing his own background Specter noted that his parents were both immigrants and New Deal Democrats, and that he is eleventh in seniority in the Senate. The Senator discussed as well his key role against the Robert Bork nomination to the Supreme Court, and his history of support for equal rights for women. Specter got an enthusiastic response, according to the statement.
