— Allison Decker of Milford won the women's 10,000-meter title, leading wire-to-wire, to open the 2016 PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday night at Mansfield University.
The East Stroudsburg University junior won the conference title in 37:47.43 after entering as the event's No. 1 seed (36:18.18 — NCAA DII provisional).
She outlasted second-place Anna Hosl (Edinboro) in 37:56.14 and third-place Jenny Picot (Slippery Rock) in 38:08.59, running away from Hosl with laps of 1:24.5 and 1:13.7 over the final 800m after they were neck-and-neck with two laps to go.
Decker is ESU's fourth women's 10,000m champion with each of the first three winning multiple titles — Sue Carden (1980-82), Jenn Moyer (1992-93) and most recently Vanessa Andes (2004-05).
She earned her fifth career PSAC scoring performance and was sixth in the 10K last year. She ran fourth in the 5000m during the 2016 indoor season.
Last fall, Decker was an NCAA DII qualifier in cross country and was the 2014 PSAC cross country runner-up.
Additionally, she was just inducted into the National Leadership and Success society. She is the daughter of Chris and Diane Decker from Milford.
