Another swmming season underway at Lake Adventure
DINGMAN Lake Adventure Community Association is in yet another swim team season, marking its 31st year providing a place where the youth can garner a sense of camaraderie, build a strong self esteem and learn about sportsmanship; not to mention, learn how to swim. The eight-week program includes a few meets a week, developing the childs skills, and competing with each other in their divisions which lead up to a championship competition. The Dolphins, Lake Adventure Community Associations swim team, have won two consecutive first-place wins and four overall wins in the last five years.
There are so many intrinsic values and benefits that our children receive from being a part of this particular league, said Artie Berkey, LACA Board of Directors President. There is nothing like seeing a four or five-year-old kid after he completes his first kickboard race that he told instructors that he couldnt do or was too scared to do. Once they have done it, the kids begin to build this sense of pride and then they become truly proud of themselves, but not nearly as proud as we are of them.
Founded around 1969, the Pocono Mountain Swim League has grown from the original five teams to now include teams from Conashaugh Lakes, Birchwood Lakes, Gold Key Lakes, Trails End, Hemlock Farms, Sunrise Lakes, Wild Acres, Pocono Mountain Woodland Lakes, Trails End, and Silver Lake.
After experiencing rapid growth, the league divided into two divisions, an A Team and B Team, to allow everyone the chance to partake in competitive races.
Lake Adventure opens its pool for 8 weeks out of the year to host five of these meets during the summer, welcoming close to 700 children into its recreational park. In the past, Lake Adventure has also hosted over eight championships, accommodating racers and family crowds.
