Delaware Valley 12-year-olds shine

MILFORD The Delaware Valley 12-year-old all-star baseball team recently won the Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken division District 5 all star tournament held in Milford. Led by manager Greg Chelak and coaches, Ronnie Klapak, Joe Loughney and Joe Raniero, Delaware Valley won all four of its tournament games, defeating Forest City in the championship game by the score of 10 to 0.
This years 12U tournament featured six teams from Northeast Pennsylvania including Delaware Valley, Forest City, Honesdale, Valley View, Waymart and Wyalusing. Delaware Valley defeated Valley View 5-4, Forest City 9-0, Honesdale 15-1 and Forest City in the championship game, 10-0. Delaware Valleys performance was marked by solid defense and stellar pitching. Zach Klapak was named the tournament MVP.
The team will now compete in the Pennsylvania Cal Ripken state baseball tournament in Springfield.
This group of Delaware Valley youth baseball players has now won four straight District 5 titles in the 9U, 10U, 11U and 12U divisions. In addition, with a team comprised mostly of eight (8) year olds, five of the current players competed in the 9U division in 2008 and finished as District 5 runners-up. All five of those years, the team has advanced to the Pennsylvania Cal Ripken State Baseball Tournament.
