Grow stronger with Penn State Extension
MILFORD — Throughout history, humans spent a lot of energy tending to the basic needs of survival. Counting calories and working out were not concerns. Life was a workout.
Here comes the modern life. Now, it’s a different story. Conveniences pave the way to a sedentary lifestyle, but this doesn’t have to be the case. "Growing Stronger" is a strength-training program for men and women 40 years of age and older who have been active or relatively sedentary and interested in improving their health.
Researchers at Tufts University say "Growing Stronger," a low cost, 12-week program offered locally this summer through Penn State Extension, is simple, safe, and effective. Men and women can grow stronger on Tuesday and Thursday evenings beginning July 12.
Consider these proven benefits: arthritis relief, improved balance and glucose control, stronger bones and muscles, weight maintenance, healthier state of mind, reduced risk of heart disease and improved sleep.
So, if you think that strength training is just for Mr. and Mrs. Universe, think again. No group can benefit more from regularly performed exercises than middle-aged and older adults.
