Hunters shatter state bear harvest record

    Harrisburg - Keystone hunters shot a new state record of 3,331 black bears in the state’s three-day bear season, which ended on Nov.23, according to the Pennsylvania Game Commission. The extended bear season, which applies in Pike County, ends Dec. 3. Agency employees processed 3,331 black bears - 456 on the third day - at check stations. Hunters are required to have their harvested bears checked within 24 hours after tagging them.
