State-legal guns okay in national parks

WASHINGTON The federal law governing firearms inside the national parks changed on Feb. 22. As of that date, visitors who may legally possess firearms in a given state, may carry them within a national park unit, provided they comply with federal, state, and local laws. Federal law prohibits firearms in certain park facilities and buildings. These places are marked with signs at public entrances. The new federal law has no effect on existing laws and regulations regarding the use of firearms in the national parks or in regards to hunting. Hunting still is not allowed in the parks. The new regulation applies at both the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River.
