State to canvass for dog licenses

    MILFORD — The state Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement will canvass the Sunrise Lake and Pine Ridge Communities in Pike County during the week of Oct. 5 to Oct. 9. State law requires that all dogs three months or older be licensed. The fee is $6.50 for spayed/neutered dogs, $8.50 for other dogs. For seniors and persons with disabilities the fee is $4.50 for spayed/ neutered dogs and $6.50 for others. Violators will be cited. The maximum fine is $300 per violation plus court costs. Rabies vaccinations are required for dogs and cats over three months of age, living in a dwelling. The maximum fine per violation of the rabies law is $300. All dogs must be under control and are not permitted to run-at-large. Complaints may be reported to James Rickert, Pike/Wayne counties state dog law enforcement officer at 570-488-9562.
