Storms caused multiple weekend power outages around the county

MATAMORAS The weather on Saturday was unpredictable, so much so that rain and high winds caused a power emergency on Rose Lane, which led to a night in the dark for nearby Westfall Township residents. Rose Lane was not alone. The county’s emergency center on Saturday dispatched firefighters to 17 incidents around Pike County involving utility wires. At approximately 8 p.m., just after a passing rainstorm which carried gusting winds, a large tree branch came down on utility wires just after “the bend” of Rose Lane, near the Delaware River. The Westfall Township Fire Department and Eastern Pike Regional Police Department responded. At the time, Chief Rob Llewellyn said Orange and Rockland Utility Company was notified of the incident, but was no estimate could then be made as to the time when power could be restored. “The lower end of Rose Lane is without power, which is about 15 homes,” he said. “Luckily, nobody was hurt.” At 11:30 p.m. a huge limb was removed and the power lines were moved to the side of the road. By 2 p.m. on Sunday, two employees from Orange and Rockland were on hand and began to assess the situation. Power was restored about two hours later.
