Street upgrade worries merchants

Milford - Second Street business owners told the borough council Monday that plans for reconfiguring traffic at the east end of Harford Street could hurt their businesses. The merchants spoke as officials of the Milford enhancement committee came before the council seeking permission to seek construction bids for the coming spring. Robert McCarthy, who owns the Cabinet Shop at the end of Second Street, said his delivery tractor trailers would not be able to negotiate the tighter corners the project creates. Fireworks store owner Lou Theodore said new tree plantings would obscure the stores from passing traffic. Enhancement committee member Richard Snyder said these were manageable engineering issues, that could be addressed. The council tabled action on the bid request pending new information on the merchants’ engineering questions.
