MILFORD n This spring, Cindy Stine of Pike County Survivors Resources was a guest lecturer for the Delaware Valley High School’s Family and Consumer Science Child Development classes of Lynn Cavagnino and Beth Cooke. Stine spoke to the classes about the need for a women’s shelter and the types of abuse that include physical, mental and emotional, stating that a woman didn’t have to be married to be abused. Controlling behavior from boyfriends and dating violence issues were also discussed with very attentive classes. The students decided that they needed to do something to help, and so they have been collecting items to donate to Survivors Resources, a nonprofit organization to support victims of abuse. They have collected small tote bags, stuffed animals, make-up, deodorant, flashlights, batteries, soap, shampoos, coloring books and crayons, small toys and cell phones that will be programmed for 911 only.
