Students advise against drugs
Dingman This spring, seventeen Delaware Valley High School’s “Students Against Substance Abuse” (SASA) members traveled to Dingman Delaware Elementary School to spread their message to fifth grades. SASA students share facts about drugs with students and play games to keep them engaged. The goal of group members is to educate the fifth grades about the harmful effects of drugs and to give them suggestions for avoiding these potential problems. It is generally accepted that hearing this message from high school students has a positive effect on the younger students. On this trip, the older students addressed more traditional drugs, including marijuana, alcohol, heroin and ecstasy. In addition, they emphasized the harmful effects of abuse of prescription medications and over-the-counter medications which should only be used under the supervision of a parent and doctor. Members who attended included Kimberly McDaniel, Advisor, Joey Gallagher, President, ChynaMarie Colon, Vice President, Kellsey Charity, Secretary, Kristin Fehr, Treasurer, Kyra Bounds, Michelle Canepa, Sam Conklin, Lauren Dean, Elena Dunayevska, William Fehr, Larissa Fox, Alex Herrick, Michelle Hornig, Andrew Oskamp, Frnakie Pecoraro, Tabitha Pekkala, and Austin Przebieglec.
