WESTFALL — A combined group of seniors and members of Students Against Substance Abuse recently volunteered to represent a person who has died from an alcohol-related incident. The students dress in black and paint their faces white. The statistics show that someone dies every thirty minutes due to an alcohol. This year, due to recent activities, the students also incorporated deaths caused by the misuse of prescription medications. The activity is intentionally scheduled for the day before prom because the number of deaths related to alcohol is higher at this time of year. Each student also had a tombstone hung up in the main hallway of the high school with a story describing their death. Students passed out red ribbons to anyone who would be affected by their death and the participants hope that this made students more aware of the consequences associated with the choices that they make. Student participants included: Samantha Conklin, William Fehr, Crystal Castro, Mike Morgan, Tonimarie Savitt, Frank Pecoraro, Kyra Bounds, Joey Gallagher, Kristin Fehr, Chynamarie Colon, D. Martin, Larissa Fox, Elena Dunayevska, Alex Herrick, Brittany Radcliffe, Shawn Moore and Madeline Schafer.
