Students try Ping Pong for peace
WESTFALL The Delaware Valley High School Student Council recently took part in savedarfur.org’s National High School Challenge. The contest asked high schools across the country to raise funds for the humanitarian effort in Darfur. Over 400,000 people have been killed in the genocide that continues to this day. The student council came up with a creative idea - “Ping Pong for Peace.” This ping pong tournament raised over $650 and involved nearly 100 students and faculty in the March 30 event. Throughout the day, students were able to sign letters to Congress urging for more action in Darfur. Students ended up collecting hundreds of signatures and selling out T-shirts designed for the event. Senior Keith Fritschie won the tournament, and, alongside the semi-finalists, was presented with donated gifts from ping pong companies the student council got to sponsor the event.
