MILFORD — The “Get a Clue” summer reading programs for children and teens at Pike County Public Library concluded with the “Murder, Mystery, and Mayhem” end of the summer party on Thursday, Aug. 9. The Friends of the Children’s Room presented a $350 check to the operating budget of children’s programs at Pike County Public Library. The money had been generated at the summer kick off in June and Harry Potter release party in July. With the rising costs of library materials and building maintenance, donations to operate the current branches are at a greater demand. The Friends of the Children’s Room (FCR also presented a box of hardcover children’s books that will be put into circulation at Pike County Public Library. The books, which valued a couple hundred dollars, were donated to the Friends of the Children’s Room by its members in honor of the ten-year anniversary last October. Following the presentation, FCR hosted a talent show featuring children in the reading programs and community. The acts ranged from musical, both instrumental and vocal, to comedy routines. The third prize went to Caleb Willis, who sang “God Bless America.” Second place was awarded to Eden Willis and Samara Filep for their comedy painting routine. The grand prize winner was Tristin Bram, who sang the Johnny Cash favorite “Ring of Fire.” All of the participants in the talent show received prize packages. The winners received “Get a Clue” tote bags and the first place winner received a $25 gift certificate to Wal-Mart. After the talent show, teen volunteers on the Friends of the Children’s Room committee led mystery themed games, handing out prizes like magnifying glasses and spy badges. The evening was made possible thanks to the Milford United Methodist Church, which opened its fellowship hall to host the party inside as a result of impending rain, and Pike County Public Library.
