Teaching little guys about Fire Safety Month

The Yetter Insurance Agency and Matamoras Volunteer Fire Department did a presentation earlier this month on fire safety for the kindergarten through third grade classes at New Life Christian Day School in Matamoras. The Matamoras Volunteer Fire Department, with Matamoras Fire Chief Tommy Long, came with three trucks (ladder, regular truck, and heavy rescue) as well as about 12 firemen. They did a program inside to teach the students when to change the batteries in the smoke/co2 detectors, what a fireman looks like in full gear, what to do if your clothes catch on fire, where to meet your family if there is a fire. The kids then got to go outside and see the firetrucks and climb in some of them. The second/third grade students got to work the hose from one of the trucks. Yetter provided all of the kids packets about fire safety that contained coloring books, posters, and stickers.
