Teens pass on the word to a younger generation

On Jan. 15, the Delaware Valley High School chapter of Teens Against Tobacco Use (TATU) visited Delaware Valley Elementary School. The teens spoke to students in grades 2 through 6 about the dangers of tobacco use, including a discussion about smokeless tobacco and secondhand smoke. The TATU kids also spoke to the students about a new cigarette hazard: “Third-Hand Smoke.” This is a term being used to describe the invisible yet toxic brew of gases and particles clinging to smokers’ hair and clothing, not to mention cushions and carpeting, that lingers long after second-hand smoke has cleared from a room. In keeping with the upcoming Valentine’s Day holiday, some TATU students created this bulletin board that warns “Smoking Hurts the Ones You Love.” Pictured are the following TATU students (left to right): Chelsea Ryder, Shannon McCabe, Brooke Robertson, Dani Edwards, Katie Donovan, Mary Cossu, Megan Toumey and Eavan Matz.
