DINGMAN - “Portable” cell towers may soon be coming to Dingman Township, as reported by Chris Wood, sewage/zoning enforcement officer. Wood learned of the possibility of 80-foot high portable “crank up” cell towers at a sewage/zoning enforcement seminar in Harrisburg that he attended last week. “These portable cell towers are common at special events such as NASCAR and State Fairs,” Wood told the supervisors. Wood told the township supervisors that some cell companies may request permission to locate the portable towers within the township, to allow them to offer their cellular customers service while plans for their usual 200-foot high towers are waiting for township approval and construction. “They will be of limited impact on the township since they don’t go up very high,” he said. Wood said he thought the maximum time frame for temporary cell towers would be about a year from what he learned at the seminar. “I don’t think we’ll have any NASCAR events in Dingman in the near future,” Wood added. In other business, the supervisors approved the “Township Clean Up Days” which were scheduled for Saturday May 13 and Sept. 23.
