Matamoras — On June 26, the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau met by marker 400 to highlight the new directional signage along US Route 6, calling this program the “Do 6.” “The trademark,‘Do 6’ is easy to remember and connects us,” stated Ann Pilcher, Director of Community Relations/Public Affairs. “It was after years of investigation that we created this mile-marker program,” Pilcher added. US Route 6 spans 440 miles over the beautiful Pennsylvanian mountains and valleys, and Matamoras’ Mayor, Richard Gassmann, believes that the “Do 6” program will help tourism economy. “Rt. 6 connects us,” Gassmann saod, “and the ‘Do 6’ markers of directional signage will make discovering Pennsylvania easier.” One of the goals of the “Do 6” signage program is to create more visibility for the local artisans and businesses. The program is keenly interested in making Pennsylvania user-friendly regarding tourists finding the wealth of attractions, and to benefit economic development and progress. “This will help people stay in the towns along Route 6. It takes a week to do justice to these towns,” said Ann Pilcher, also noting “there are sixteen old diners along Route 6, which are a real attraction.” Carl G. Wilgus, Executive Director of the Pocono Mountains Convention and Visitors Bureau, reinforced that. “Too often, we don’t connect the communities together. Our focus is to make them connect,” Wilgus stated. More benefits to the tourism economy will stem from visitors knowing what is in the area, he said.
