DINGMAN — Town officials broke ground for the new Dingman Township Park on Log Tavern Road across form the township Fire Department on Monday. Dingman Township Supervisor’s Chair Tom Mincer said, “People like John Quinn and Al Greening who gave the township a good financial base years ago allowed us to move the dream forward. It took us a little longer than expected to get underway. One of the reasons was that we had to do an archeological search and dig looking for Indian artifacts. None were found, which is what we expected to happen. Other delays took place also,” Mincer recalled. As with any large project there are many permits required which have to be issued by several state agencies which takes time to get approval. The process of construction of the initial roadway into the park is now underway. It is going to be a 1,500-foot gravel road and the work is being done by Leeward Construction of Hawley. Mincer said grass seed is expected to be planted in areas of the park by the end of summer 2009 and he expects local athletic leagues to be using the fields by spring 2010.
