Two farm stops at annual open house

    WARWICK-You and your family have the opportunity to take a "reality tour" of Wisner Farms Dairy, and Winslow Therapeutic Riding Center of Warwick, NY. on October 1. Open House on the Farm, is an annual event sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension in Orange County featuring an inside look at working farms and a chance to learn about agriculture and its importance to the community. Open House on the Farm regularly draws over 1,000 visitors of all ages, and from all over the surrounding region. Different facilities are featured every year to highlight the many faces of farming. The tour runs from 10 a.m. through 3 p.m. and allows each guest to set their own pace n making it a family-friendly activity. Open House activities at the dairy include: guided tours of a modern working dairy farm by active area farmers; a petting zoo featuring young farm animals; cow milking demonstrations; hay baling demonstrations; educational exhibits on modern agriculture; and the Orange County Dairy Ambassadors. Lunch and ice cream will be available at a nominal charge and there will be free milk for everyone. At the Winslow Therapeutic Center, watch a therapeutic riding lesson in session, see a variety of different horse breeds, learn about horse behavior and nutrition, find out how recycled tires are put to use in the horse facility, and bring all your gardening questions to the "Ask A Master Gardener" booth! Sponsors say "Open House on the Farm' is a treat for the whole family and they recommend that you bring your camera.
