Two-year-old involved in police fugitive chase

    PORT JERVIS, N.Y. — A Port Jervis man, who was wanted in Pike County, clutched and then tossed away a two-year child as he was chased by police on Saturday. Shaquan Lightfoot, 19, of Port Jervis, was charged with being a fugitive from justice, a felony, endangering the welfare of a child, reckless endangerment in the second degree and resisting arrest, misdemeanors, according to city police. Lightfoot was charged with running from Port Jervis police officers while he was holding the child as the officers attempted to arrest Lightfoot for being a Fugitive from Justice. Officers alleged that Lightfoot ran and threw the small child to the ground. Lightfoot was captured by police after a brief struggle. Cops said that the child did not suffer any injuries during the incident. Lightfoot was held overnight in the city lock-up and arraigned in city court, where he was remanded to Orange County Jail on $5,000 bail on the New York charges. He was held without bail awaiting extradition to Pike County for theft related charges.
