UPDATE: Father says uncounted sailor's vote for Fisher

MILFORD — Bill Lamac, the father of US Navy sailor Ashley Lamac, said his daughter’s absentee vote in the recent Pike primary election was delayed because she was at sea in the Persian Gulf. Lamac read a statement Wednesday at the weekly county commissioners’ meeting. Seaman Lamac overnighted her ballot, said to be supporting candidate Jack Fisher, after reaching port on May 26. That same Tuesday was the deadline for its arrival back in Milford. Beyond saying the late ballot would not be counted, county officials have not commented about their receipt of the ballot. Fisher wrote Thursday morning that it was “shameful that a military member’s absentee vote was disallowed. Mr. Silverstone can right this wrong by conceding and withdrawing. That would be the honorable thing to do and I call upon him to such.” Apprised of Lamac and Fisher’s and statements Thursday morning, Silverstone said he would consider his alternatives, but would make no immediate decision before confirming the details. Fisher went on to say that he would not take part in the casting of lots, but has authorized running mate, candidate Bill Greenlaw as his proxy for the noontime lot casting, reportedly set for June 5.
