UPDATE: Third man found guilty in Saw Creek murder
MILFORD The third man tried in the Aug. 2007 murder of Barry J. Rose in the Saw Creek Development was found guilty of murder in Pike County Court on Thursday. Senior Judge Robert J. Conway convicted Marquis Keeys of First Degree Murder, Second Degree Murder, Third Degree Murder, two (2) counts of Robbery, Burglary and Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Robbery and Burglary. The trial started on Monday and wrapped up with closing arguments on Thursday morning. At trial, Pike County District Attorney, Raymond J. Tonkin presented evidence that Keeys was the triggerman in the murder of Rose. Keeys confessed to state troopers that he arranged with Cameron Harinarain and Justin Culver to rob Barry Rose of his firearms. After donning masks and entering through a basement window, the three confronted Danielle Rose, the daughter of Barry Rose. They instructed her to wake her father. When Rose opened his bedroom door, he saw one masked man who turned out to be Keeys, and began to shoot at him. Keeys returned fire with a 9mm Taurus handgun, striking Barry Rose four times. The three fled the residence, with Justin Culver jumping through a closed window in a bedroom. Keeys eventually gave the gun to Ed Labar so that he could sell it for him. The 9mm Taurus was recovered by the Pennsylvania State Police and was determined to be the murder weapon. Cameron Harinarain, age 19, and Justin Culver, age 21, both of Bushkill, were both convicted after a jury trial before Pike County President Judge Joseph F. Kameen last month. They were both sentenced to a term of life in prison without parole. Keeys will be sentenced on Wednesday, Apr 29, 2009. He faces a mandatory life sentence. District Attorney, Ray Tonkin said, “The Pennsylvania State Police’s work in this case should be commended. The numerous state troopers involved in the investigation worked very hard to bring all three of the persons responsible for Rose’s death to justice. Hopefully this will bring some closure to the Rose family.”
