Volunteers needed to water young trees

MILFORD Valerie Meyer needs a few willing volunteers to help borough trees get through a hot summer. Meyer, director of the borough’s Shade Tree Commission made her plea before the borough council Monday. During this time of extreme heat and very little rain, the young street trees are under a lot of stress and the commission needs volunteers for their weekly Watering Team. “This would require about 1.5 hours of your time to go around town in their Green Truck to fill about 24 tree Gatorbags with water. The Gatorbags hold 10 gallons of water and provide slow-drip irrigation within a two-day period. If this is done once a week the trees have enough water.” The effort would be valuable, especially for young teens in need of a project do to this summer. Volunteers should call her at 570-296-7603. Meyer also extended thanks to the people in Milford who helped acquire a new 275 gallon watering tank, including: Mayor Bo Fean, Councilman Vinny Accordino, street department workers Paul Curran, and Duane Kuhn, Police Chief Gary Williams, Police Chief of Milford, and Bernie and B.J. Sheeran of the Milford Fire Department.
