Well violations can become expensive
DINGMAN Township supervisors Tuesday amended Dingman’s Well Ordinance. The amendment addresses issues of contamination by requiring that completed wells be covered by a cap that is designed to keep insects and other vermin from entering the well. The well casing must also be at least 12 inches above the ground and must be connected to the building it would serve within two years of permit issuance. Failure to file a permit for well drilling would be a summary offense meriting a citation and a fine of $500 to $1,000 and possible jail time. In other business, a new resident to the township asked if the township had ever considered municipal waste removal as a township provided service. Township Supervisors Chair Tom Mincer told him it would be impossible. “There are many private communities in Dingman and even if the township could get permission to enter into these communities the cost would be greater than what people are paying on their own. Private communities negotiate their own contracts with waste haulers and we would have to come in as the low bidder,” Mincer said.
