What do we do about the sex and health issues at Delaware Valley?
DV students respond to the recent reports of increased sexual activity and related diseases among students. Brian Hemion, class of 2007: The health problems reflect the constant decline of society and the morals people have. I think sex ed classes should be provided in high school, promoting both safe sex and abstinence. Ashley Calle, junior: I’m not surprised that a lot of people are having sex, but still, it’s not hard to put a condom on - it’s common sense. I can’t remember anything from Sex Ed in eighth grade beside the vocab words, so I really think we need to be educated more about protection in high school. Kyle Lutz, senior: The issues are a result of society today. People are just foolish. Having more sex ed classes won’t help, because we have drug education in our health classes and kids still do drugs and smoke cigarettes. Jaime Wright, junior: I think these issues are sad because they affect a lot of people it’s sad that girls are mothers at 16. I don’t think peers in the school environment are supportive enough, that parents talk to their children enough about sex, or that there is enough community stimulation or outside activities to occupy youth.
