What happened to the Westfall cinema?

WESTFALL — Three months after the proposed Westfall 7 Cinema was brought to public attention, its future location in the K-Mart plaza has yet to see any construction. With April as the theater’s projected opening date, some skeptical Pike County locals are no longer storing much faith in the “better late than never” adage — at least concerning this tri-state movie theater. Cinema owner Norman Adie admitted that unanticipated events are, again, the cause for this further delay. In November, Adie said surprising architectural obstacles prompted him to find and hire a new architect. In late February, he assures questioners that the hitch in the theater’s construction is just as minute. “Put very simply, the system of approval for the engineer and building plans was much more complicated than I thought it would be,” Adie said. “It was broader and more complex.” But processes are now moving along, he said, and the demolition of the Grand Union where Westfall 7 Cinema will stand will begin on Monday, Feb. 25. Adie expects the first popcorn to be popping and movies to be rolling by the July 4 holiday weekend.
