Wine-tasting benefits library
MILFORD n Summer will start winding down Sunday, Aug. 26, with a wine-tasting party to benefit current operations of the Pike County Public Library. The event will be hosted by the Restaurant at 20 Front Street in Port Jervis from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Troy Chmielewski, sous-chef, and other restaurant staff will be available to provide information and answer questions about the wines. Featured will be 13 red and white wines as well as champagne and dessert wines. Imported and domestic cheeses and a number of hors d’oeuvres prepared by the restaurant will be served. This will also be an opportunity for those who haven’t yet been to this area restaurant to sample the delicious foods they serve. Betty Hague, a member of the library board of trustees and coordinator of the operations fundraising committee, urges all county residents to join in the fun. “This is an opportunity for all of us to enjoy the late August days together, learn about wines and support the library operations all at the same time,” she said. “We plan to fill in some gaps in the current operating budget with fundraising events like these and hope to host future events that will be fun but also will help provide books and services for our county patrons.” Tickets are $40 per person and available at the three libraries in Pike County (Milford, Dingman Township and Lackawaxen Township) or from any member of the operations fundraising committee: Bill Griffin, Betty Hague, Alice Jane Loewrigkeit , Carole Linkiewicz, Rob Rohner, Gayle Schuster, Miriam Siegal, Marie Stieh and Gail Wershing. The Pike County Public Library has more than 31,000 cardholders and circulates almost 12,000 of its 63,500 books, audio and video items every month in addition to providing computer access to county patrons. The most-used of the three sites is the Milford main branch located in the Community House at the corner of Broad and Harford streets. A book drop is also located in Bushkill for convenient returns.
