MILFORD — The Pike County Young Republican chapter was the first in the Northeast to receive its charter from the Pennsylvania Federation of Young Republicans. Chairman Christopher Decker attended the Sept. 26, statewide executive board meeting in Harrisburg where the charter was unanimously approved. At the meeting Decker was also appointed as a member of that board, one of only ten in the state. The honor was bestowed upon Decker for his work on the Pike charter and his efforts in the formation of chapters throughout all counties in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Decker has been working closely with Ryan Calef of Wayne County who is organizing a chapter and Calef, who was also in attendance, was named by the Executive Board as the Northeast/East Regional Director of the Pennsylvania Young Republicans (PAYR). The PAYR Statewide Executive Board meeting coincided with the Pennsylvania Republican State Committee fall meeting and dinner where Pike County Young Republican members met with committee members and Republican candidates from across the state. Former White House Press Secretary Dana Perino was the keynote speaker for the Friday evening dinner. Judicial candidates and United States Senate candidate Pat Toomey also spoke. Toomey had expressed interest in traveling to Pike County and Pike members were able to meet him. They also met Tom Corbett, current Pennsylvania Attorney General and a Republican candidate for Governor for 2010 and all seven of the Republican judicial candidates. Members will meet with Steve Johnson, candidate for Lieutenant Governor on Saturday, Oct. 17, in Milford and will be attending the Pike County Republican Committee Dinner on Sunday, Oct. 18, with Attorney General Tom Corbett, candidate for Governor.
