Your recyclables are all the same

No more sorting the plastics and cans for Pike residents. The county commissioners recently notified participating townships that a “single stream,” recycling process will be employed as a private refuse handler, Waste Management, takes over administration. Commissioners’ Chair Rich Caridi said the county will still own the program, but state grants which have supplemented county revenues have dried up and the state has cut county administration fees from $7 to $4 per ton. Caridi said the county’s three trucks all need to be replaced and Pike doesn’t have the $1 million needed to replace them. Caridi is hoping that residents will keep the single stream recycling process free of household trash as they have in past. Fees for the Waste Management process will be based on tonnage.
