A challenge for students
At the last meeting of The Friends Of the Pike County Library on April 13 many of us were concerned about the students who confessed that they did not make use of the Pike County Library. Only one student of the six interviewed said she was a library patron. I was asked to write this letter on behalf of the Friends. We are concerned because the facilities of a library are so useful not only to us but also to students who can use all the facilities at little or no cost including computers, films, music and, most importantly, the large collection of books that are available. Recently, I had to speak with a person at a business with which I was dealing. While she was extremely polite and sincere in trying to help, I was appalled at her language skills. Her apology to me was heart-felt ,but I was shocked when she said, ”l’m sorry it’s tooken so long to take care of this.” I’d like to challenge DV students. Join the library and read at least ten books during the summer. We”11 honor your endeavor at our annual luncheon. The books can be on any subject that you are interested in. All you have to do is save the slip you receive when you borrow the books, sign your name on the back, and have the librarian sign and date them. Then mail them to me at 104 Wheatfield Plaza, in Milford before our fall book sale. I’11 make a list of all of your names and we’ll be able to brag about our students. You’ll benefit, the library will honor you, and I am sure your parents will be proud of you. And DV will have the best, well-read students in Pennsylvania. If we can be proud of our sports teams we should be proud of our well-educated students. Janeth DeGraw Milford
