Angered about lies
This is in regards to the story about the rampant spread of STDs and the reported case of HIV at Delaware Valley High School. To quote: “Finan said the district does teach sex education in its health curriculum, but the curriculum is based on abstinence, she said. “There is always room for improvement, but our curriculum will remain,” she said.” I graduated from DVHS in 2005 and never once in my time there was I given a sexual education class, nor did anyone else I know. Drug and substance prevention yes, but never any sexual education, abstinence or otherwise. As for the curriculum based on abstinence, there is more to sexual health then that and DV needs to realize that not every student will choose that. Ignoring the problem doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist and now it’s become a real issue. Millions of schools across the country teach safe sex practices and sexual health, DV needs to get on board with that or the price they will pay is the health and wellness of its students. Parents need to do their part at home but the school district needs to show their awareness to a worldwide problem. It really angers me to see Dr. Finan lie about something like that. It just proves the multiple flaws in the DV school system that have been there for years. Unfortunately, the publicity comes at the cost of the health of the districts students.
