Health insurance reform needed

| 29 Sep 2011 | 04:16

I find it ironic that in a recent article about tea bag protesters three of the six persons quoted in the article have their health insurance paid for by some form of government. I am referring to the two New York City firemen and one New York City retired police officer. Among the other local voices who have protested affordable health insurance, we find two of our county commissioners, who also have their health insurance paid for by the taxpayers. I am fortunate enough to be covered by the VA. It is an excellent system that has been put under tremendous strain by the influx of our injured returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Your co-pay is determined by a combination of your income and your assets. I pay out of pocket for my wife’s medical insurance, the cost of which, with deductible, adds up to more than our house and car insurance, local real estate taxes and our home energy bills combined. We desperately need affordable health insurance reform. Donald Minasian Milford
