Learning Curve?
Some of the Delaware Valley School Board Directors believe that a candidate is NOT qualified to replace Mr. John Wladar’s position because the “learning curve” is too great of an obstacle. What they seem to overlook is the “experience curve” that Mr. Benny Marasa will bring to the DVSB. Mr. Marasa in his years at Con Edision was an expert in budget management and transportation. This is exactly the need on the Delaware Valley School Board. Mr. Marasa has a proven track record. We already have a Special Education Director with many years experience in the field, that will serve the district well. Life experience is one of the best preparations for a resident to serve on the Delaware Valley School Board. With all due respect to the teenager who applied for the vacant position on the DVSB, this is not a game. The decisions that board members make affect the very structure of the people that we serve. Raising children, paying property and school taxes, paying mortgages, working two or sometimes three jobs to make ends meet, having a sick child, losing a child, the list is endless. Can a teenager fresh out of high school, connect to the residents served by this board? Maybe is the future, but not at this point. The section of the brain responsible for decision making and rational thinking doesn’t fully mature until the mid-twenties. Proof ? Try to get auto insurance if you are a teen.
