Letter sent to Center for Developmental Disabilities parents
I am delighted to welcome your child back to our early education program at the Center for Developmental Disabilities. We look forward to an exciting year of many new learning adventures. Miss Diane, Miss Terry, Miss Kim and Miss Heather have been busy planning many new activities and learning opportunities for your child. As many of you know we still do not have a state budget. This had been a very difficult time for us at CDD. We have been trying to decide what programs to run, if we could run all of our programs, what programs to cut, what programs to reduce etc. Please keep in mind when I say programs, I am really talking about children. What children to cut. Without the state budget many programs for children are affected. Specifically, we are currently not receiving any funds for our Pre-K Counts program and our Head Start program. This is resulting in a deficit of about $80,000.00. It is an awful and unnecessary position for our program and our community. However, at this point in time in the interest of the children we serve their families and our community, I have decided to offer these programs. I need your help to do so. I am asking all families to support our children’s program by providing the following (please pick three): 2 boxes of tissues 4 rolls of paper towel 4 rolls of toilet tissue 2 bottles of liquid soap 2 bottles of juice (100% apple or white grape) 4 bottles of white glue (Elmer’s) Finger paints (red, yellow, blue, green, brown, white, purple) 2 packages of construction Paper (letter and legal) Children’s paper scissors Thick magic markers Thick crayons I am also requesting that parents please consider volunteering a morning or afternoon in one of our classrooms to support our children and teachers. Please come to help serve snack, read a story or play with children in the playground! You can contact Margie or Kelly to set up a time or get more information. I am grateful for your support. I know with your help and generosity we can survive these difficult times together and continue to provide excellent educational services to our children. Ann Gillerlane, executive director Milford
