To the Editor:
We at Black Bear Film Festival were delighted to see your story about Delaware Valley High School (DVHS) graduates Fernando Irizarry, Nathanael King and Elias Johnson and their film "La Veglia."
They will be encouraged to know that Black Bear has inaugurated a new Schools Partnership Initiative with five area schools this year to promote filmmaking and the arts among young adults in the tri-state region. Students from DVHS, Wallenpaupack Area High School, and Sussex County Vo-Tech are submitting short films for consideration at this October's Black Bear Film Festival Salon; Dingman Delaware Middle School's "Artful Bear" will be unveiled at the Artful Bears Community Picnic on Saturday, Aug. 13, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Milford's Community House Lawn; and a new Black Bear college internship program is in full swing with Sussex County Community College.
We hope students and other young adults will participate in our new filmmaking workshops, the next of which is "Film Production: From Script to Screen" on Saturday, Nov. 19, and attend the film festival on Oct. 14-16 in Milford.
Finally, we wish Messrs. Irizarry, King and Johnson all the best in their film endeavors. In fact, we hope to screen their movies at future festivals!
