Come to Woodland Lakes' special meeting and elect people who really care

To the Editor:
The annual meeting of Pocono Mountain Woodland Lakes Homeowners Association has come...and mostly gone. An entire new set of by-laws has passed (in over 30 years) and the yearly budget was passed, mostly because of an excellent planning and presentation by the community treasurer, with backup by the community’s new auditor. The stain on the meeting occurred when a tie happened between two of the candidates, obviating the entire results on advice of the community’s attorney (!?). These results were affected by a series of interruptions and dubious questions by a small group of chronic malcontents, some of whom were former board members and employees. This has resulted in the necessity of a second round of voting which the members in good standing should hear about shortly. This will create further unnecessary expenses for the membership, as well as potentially delaying some important decisions and the implementation of proposed changes.
In the next round of voting, under the new by-laws, no proxy voting will be allowed and a special meeting must be activated. The total number of votes cast was approximately 240, out of about 1,150 households of members in good standing, a terribly small percentage of eligible voters.
Please, all those members who can physically attend the special meeting, do so! This way you can observe in person the behavior of the various candidates and their supporters and vote accordingly.
The budget for the coming year is over $1.4 million, a not inconsiderable sum for any community in the Pike County Poconos! Please pay close attention and we will be able to elect people who are legitimately interested in maintaining and improving our investment, not the “old guard” who are attempting to hang on for their own benefit and their friends and relations!
