Delaware River threatened once again

To the Editor:
The Delaware River Basin is once again under threat of a frack attack.
After years of enjoying a moratorium on the extreme practice, a series of events including lawsuits against the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) could allow fracking to run rampant. That would be the equivalent of a death sentence as the drinking water for millions would be put at risk. We must stand strong and stand together right now to prevent the Delaware watershed from getting completely fracked over.
Since 2010 the DRBC has prohibited permitting for natural gas extraction projects in the Delaware River Basin while they study its potential impacts on water resources, a de-facto moratorium that does not allow permits to be issued until natural gas regulations are adopted.
Signals from the DRBC staff have raised alarm bells that the DRBC may be taking steps to adopt regulations and lift the current moratorium.
Since 2010, the overwhelming weight of scientific evidence and on-the-ground experience where fracking has wreaked havoc prove that fracking simply isn’t safe.
Make the statement that now is the time to enact a permanent ban on all gas development, including drilling and fracking, in the Delaware River Watershed.
To send written comments to DRBC about why fracking must be banned in the Delaware River Watershed: Commission Secretary, P.O. Box 7360, 25 Cosey Road, West Trenton, NJ 08628; by fax to Commission Secretary, DRBC at 609-883-9522; or by email (preferred) to paula.schmitt@drbc.nj.gov. Use this subject line: "Water Resources Plan has no room for fracking".
