Despite Trump’s unhinged racism, Toomey still willing to support him
Pat Toomey has difficulty understanding a pretty simple concept: when the candidate you support for president does something misogynistic, bigoted or racist, people are going to ask you if you’ve changed your mind. But again, after Donald Trump questioned a federal judge’s ability to do his job based on his “Mexican heritage,” Toomey effectively had nothing to say. Somehow, at a press availability a reporter noted, “Toomey appeared frustrated” by being asked about his Party’s presidential nominee’s racism.
Of course, these questions are legitimate and totally fair. In fact, in the same availability Toomey highlighted why. He said he wasn’t going to vote for the Democratic nominee and for his presidential choice “there’s really only one viable alternative.” — i.e. Trump!
Toomey’s obfuscation wasn’t a principled stand or anything new. It’s just another entry in the annals of Toomey’s moral timidity and craven political calculus when it comes to the nastiness of Donald Trump.
