Pike needs helpful, inclusive commissioners

To the Editor:
Pike County needs new, effective ideas. We need a team who brings together the hallmarks of successful leadership to execute these ideas — a fresh start, a new beginning, a direction set for a brighter future. Voting the status quo insures stagnancy in economic and job growth; the status quo is not working.

The meager job growth and its wages projected for Pike County are not enough. This does not represent success nor does it support healthy economic means for our residents and businesses.

We need fair living wages for Pike�s workforce, a dignified progressive approach that creates wealth to be spent in our local economy rather than a regressive approach. It's not just about keeping taxes at the same level, a claim of our current leadership. When wages don't keep up with inflation, people sink.

As leaders responsible to an electorate, the bar must be higher, setting the example. Leadership must create an atmosphere that is friendly, helpful, inclusive rather than exclusive; leaders who will get down in the trenches and work with us — an attitude absent elitism, an investment in all of our people.
