Please support our nonprofits during time of budget impasse

To the Editor:
I am writing this open letter to the community in the hopes of generating financial support for the many not-for-profits that serve our community.

We all are aware that Pennsylvania is entering into its sixth month without a budget. Our not-for-profits depend on the funding they receive from the state for their day-to-day operations, and, without it, many are forced to reduce services, lay off employees, and in some cases close their doors.

It is not my purpose to lay blame for this impasse but to ask those of us who can, to write a check before year's-end in support of their favorite charity or charities. In doing so you will be providing donations at a time when most needed as well as getting a tax deduction for your donation.

Thank you for your time and may you enjoy this holiday season knowing your donations are making a difference in the lives of our neighbors throughout Pike County.
