Support children and teachers, not unions
To the Editor:
Americans for Prosperity called on Governor Wolf today to back off his threats to veto HB 805 and sign the bipartisan bill which will allow schools to retain their best performing teachers in the event layoffs are required. The legislation passed the state senate with bipartisan support Tuesday.
Our schools should be allowed to keep the best performing teachers, not lay off those who merely have less seniority. HB 805 has bipartisan support because protecting good teachers is not a Republican or Democratic issue. Our children deserve the best, and allowing schools to make any necessary layoffs on the basis of performance empowers them to make sure our children do not unnecessarily lose their best teachers. Governor Wolf should stop bowing to the unions demanding that he place their interests above our children's needs.
Americans for Prosperity key voted the HB 805 vote and recently released digital ads thanking the sponsors of the bill and calling on Governor Wolf to sign it.
