Tonkin's references to JFK are offensive

To the Editor:
I found a great historical comparison to Pike County DA Ray Tonkin's new campaign quote which he lifted from President John F. Kennedy, "Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer."

I assume Mr. Tonkin is seeking to compare his skills in office to President Kennedy's ability to lead our nation.

Well, let's go back to the 1988 Vice-Presidential debate and Senator Lloyd Bentson's quote to Senator Dan Quayle when he made a similar, outlandish comparison to President Kennedy: "Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy."

Mr. Tonkin, the same applies to you. You are not a Democrat. You lost as a Republican. And honestly, you can't hold a candle to your opponent, Attorney Gaughan.

Please save your comparisons to President Kennedy. They are offensive.
