More from Sunrise
To the editor: In response to the 12/7/07 article “Township has no role in Complaint,” this is to clarify the facts about the entrances at Sunrise as I believe the article does not convey the entire story. There is only one reason the entrances at Sunrise Lake had to be adjusted. The owners of Sunrise Lake, Bob and Bill Ramagosa, need to meet requirements of a conditional use permit in order to continue building a new forty-nine house sub-division off Wild Meadow Drive in Sunrise. They represented to numerous residents who called to complain about the concrete divide that PennDOT required this work be done or they would close either entrance. Joe Pelosi of PennDOT confirmed to me that this was absolutely false. The construction to the entrances is for the Ramagosa’s personal profit only in order for them to continue developing the community. Pelosi also advised me that the owners of Sunrise Lake hired the engineering firm that designed the plans for the new entrances. The plans do meet the minimum requirements of PennDOT. Pelosi acknowledged these plans are not reviewed by his organization for safety as that responsibility lies with the engineer who designs the plans. Was safety a concern for the engineering company, hired by Sunrise Ventures? The school buses can no longer enter the main entrance without making a turn that crosses the cement divider and goes into oncoming traffic. As a result, busses have been rerouted to the back entrance. This is not due to the width of the entrance, but rather to the concrete median now placed in the middle of the road at the main entrance. Virginia Kennedy did not “fire questions” at Tom Mincer. She along with the president of the Cranberry Ridge Association and other members of the Sunrise community asked questions out of concern for our families and neighbors who reside in this community and Cranberry Ridge. It appears we are all frustrated with the current conditions in Sunrise Lake. I am certain Mincer is aware of our issues, and we fully understand his position. The residents went to the township supervisors’ meeting because that is what we were directed to do by PennDOT after they received multiple calls from Sunrise residents. And this was after numerous residents first called Ramagosa, who told us that he was not responsible and if we had any concerns we should direct them to PennDOT. Bill Mikulak, Fire Chief for Dingmans Township, would be completely out of line to say “they just need something to complain about.” Speaking for myself, I’m not interested in complaining about anything. I am interested in sharing my concerns with the elected officials and other people in a position to rectify potentially dangerous situations in the hopes of affecting a speedy and satisfactory resolution for all parties. And if residents are expressing concern to their township supervisors regarding emergency vehicles getting into the community understandable given the situation with the school buses - why would Mikulak intentionally wait until we left the meeting to explain that there is not a problem with emergency vehicles entering the community? The residents also asked about tanks that will store water for the proposed subdivision. Mikulak responded that the township would make sure these tanks are maintained, an answer that satisfied our concerns. Since he forthrightly answered that question, why would he wait to make his position on the entrances clear and then denigrate our safety concerns? Why does Mikulak, whose responsibility is to the safety of all the residents of Dingman’s Township, feel it necessary to criticize a group with which he had not any contact until the supervisors’ meeting on Tuesday night? I can personally assure Mikulak that living in this community and having to deal with the owners is seldom pleasant and something I’d prefer not to have to do, and certainly not as often as we find ourselves these days. I would much rather spend quality time with my family than spend it running from meeting to meeting trying to keep up with all the transgressions to local ordinances and moral digressions these men seem compelled to perpetuate. In light of the present condition of Sunrise Lake as a community and neighborhood, Mikulak’s attributed statement is both insulting and demeaning to those of us dealing daily with the irresponsible actions of the owners of this community. I personally invite Mr. Mikulak to visit our community to witness for himself the current conditions here. DeAnna Margiore for Concerned Citizens of Sunrise Lake Milford
