More n on the school board elections
To the editor: It is unusual to see a former student of the Delaware Valley School District take such interest in our school board and who should be elected to sit on it (Courier Viewpoints, 8/31/07, by Ryan Balton). Unfortunately, young Ryan Balton is hardly in a position to make a recommendation on this matter which can be taken all that seriously. Ryan recently graduated from high school. He has not experienced the burden of having to pay ever higher property taxes to support a huge education bureaucracy. At a cost of over $12,000 per year per student, the time has come for property taxpayers to demand, through the ballot box, much greater fiscal responsibility within our public education system. For years now the spenders on the school board have pushed through their costly agenda with no regard for the people who have to pay the bills. The increases in property taxes are eroding the ability and historical right of many to keep real property. Nothing is worth being forced out of your home because of excessive taxation, not the public education system nor almost anything else provided by government. We have had enough of the “experience” of the spenders on the DV School Board. We need people on this board who are dedicated to real expense control. Some of the members on the current board were part of that lame-duck board of several years ago that voted for that super golden parachute for a previous superintendent, ignoring the wishes of the voters. That sort of arrogance should not be forgiven by voters. No, Ryan, we desperately need to change the makeup of this board to get control over the spending proclivities of the current board. The power to tax is the power to destroy and this power should strictly be limited. It is time for change. It is high time for a DV School Board that will respect the concerns of property taxpayers. Vote for and vote only for French, Kupillas, and Wladar in the November election to help make change possible. Karl H. Flail Milford
