On criticism of the sex-ed class

Congratulations to Delaware Valley High School for offering a sex-ed course that focuses on good sense, instead of politically correct ideas that have been proven wrong. In reference to “Students, teacher critical of sex-ed class,” Feb. 13, 2009 Courier; the Aspire workbook appears to be the perfect antidote for soaring rates of sexually transmitted diseases, out-of-wedlock births, teen abortion, and poverty-stricken single mothers. These facts are available from numerous credible sources. DVHS seniors skeptical of the “abstinence-ed” approach need only check out recent statistics from the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta on the frightening rise in STDs. Despite decades of pervasive heavy-duty sex-ed (read: “safe sex”) courses in high schools and colleges, these disease statistics have risen ever higher. Taxpayer money should never be used to teach “recreational sex” to our young people. We heard from “some” students and a “representative of several other students interviewed.” It would be interesting to find out if any of the other students enrolled in the sex-ed course realize instinctively that “abstinence has worked every time it has been tried!” Mr. & Mrs. Daniel McGrath Milford Editor’s note: Superintendent Candis Finan on Feb. 19 said that the curriculum would be re-evaluated before the next school year. She also reported that 22 of 29 students taking the course submitted positive exit evaluations.
